As the name suggests, elastomeric membrane is an elastic material resembling rubber. It consists of a thick polyester base layer serving as reinforcement, and a bitumen layer containing polymers. This type of bitumen is highly resilient and is also used on some roads.
During installation, the two layers are fused together using a torch. The roofer melts the surface of the top layer to ensure it adheres deeply to the base layer. This results in an elastomeric membrane with no seams that could allow water to penetrate. This characteristic makes it highly effective at waterproofing your flat roof.
Since it resists water infiltration, impact, weathering, and degradation from UV rays, elastomeric membrane can have a lifespan of up to 30 years. To keep it in excellent condition, annual maintenance is essential. Roofers ensure that everything is in order and perform minor repairs if needed.
During inspections, our flat roof maintenance experts in Limoilou carefully assess the condition of the elastomeric membrane and ensure it is watertight. The areas around fixtures such as roof vents and plumbing vents are inspected, as well as the roof-to-wall junctions. Repairs, such as addressing bubbles or cracks, will be efficiently carried out.
